About this deal

The Making of Coraline - A series of ten individual featurettes that can be watched in one chunk with the play all function. A couple of choice scenes using diffusers can't even take away from the superb quality of this picture. All and all, “Coraline” on 4K UHD Blu-ray arrives with a new Dolby Atmos mix that certainly does the sound mix and movie equal justice, enough to earn it a perfect 5 rating for audio quality. This movie is a really trippy and heartfelt good time for both adults and a lot of fun as a fantasy with a message for younger audiences, which it is intended primarily for.

The only real perceptible difference is a slight improvement in image depth for this 2D presentation. Even so, those who do plow through the entire 3D experience will be rewarded with at-times amazing depth of field and lifelike dimensionality. In the tradition of the Brothers Grimm and the stop-motion animation style of my childhood, 'Coraline' is a much more serious film than the trailers would have us believe. Featurette: "The Making of 'Coraline'" (HD, 36 min) - There are no surprises in this informative featurette that examines different areas of the film's pre-production and its end result. Even when Selick's stomach-turning imagery is at its most hideous, an unwavering, nearly indescribable beauty graces every sinister garden, mangled monster, and decrepit tunnel that appears on screen. We reviewed the Region free US Ultra HD Blu-ray release of Coraline on a Panasonic TX-65HZ1000B Ultra HD 4K TV with a Panasonic DP-UB450 Dolby Vision HDR10+ 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. The caveat here is that while the alternate universe is quite fun and zany, there's a sinister and evil entity lurking in the shadows that causes Coraline to come to terms with her lot in life and make amends with her family.

Voicing the Characters” (10 minutes, 47 seconds – HD) was previously included on the original 2009 Blu-ray release. Y ou get a total roughly of 180 minutes of extras here, not including the audio commentary track on both the 4K and Blu-ray Discs.Gaiman’s story certainly isn't new, it draws heavily from past literature, not least Carroll’s Alice, or any number of ‘beware of strangers’ fiction, but since this tale was spun for his daughter, this can be forgiven. Granted, any shortcomings should be attributed to the limitations of home video 3D -- which hasn't come close to catching up with the technology currently being used in theaters -- but it's still a difficult, somewhat annoying way to watch a film, especially one as lovely as Coraline. Coraline has just moved into a quaintly bizarre old apartment ( “The Pink Palace Apartments”) with her parents. The Making of Coraline“ (36 minutes, 14 seconds – HD) was previously included with the original 2009 Blu-ray release.
